Troubleshooting Common Alerts & Alarms

Even with a high‑performance AmpBox, your JK‑PB2A16S BMS may occasionally trigger a protection event. These alerts are not failures — they are the BMS actively protecting your 280Ah–314Ah LiFePO4 cells. Understanding the difference between a Warning and a Protection Trip is key to maintaining a healthy system.

1. Most Common Alert: Cell Over Voltage (COVP)

The Symptom: Charging stops, red “Alarm” LED appears, app shows Cell Over Voltage.

  • The Cause: One cell reached 3.65V before the others, even if total pack voltage is low.
  • The Fix:
    • The BMS will auto‑recover once the cell drops below 3.50V.
    • Verify Active Balancer settings (Balance Start = 3.40V).
    • Lower inverter Bulk/Absorption voltage by 0.2V to give the balancer more time.
2. Temperature Alarms (OTP / UTP)

Your AmpBox uses 4 internal NTC sensors to monitor temperature.

Under Temperature (UTP):

  • Occurs when cells are below 0°C.
  • Charging is disabled to prevent lithium plating.
  • Fix: Warm the environment; discharge is usually still allowed.

Over Temperature (OTP):

  • Triggered if cells exceed 55°C or MOSFETs exceed 75°C.
  • Fix: Reduce load; if persistent, inspect for loose busbar connections causing heat.
3. Short Circuit Protection (SCP)

The Symptom: Breaker ON → immediate beep → shutdown.

The Cause: Inverter inrush current looks like a short to the BMS.

The Fix:

  • Turn OFF the AmpBox breaker.
  • Use a Pre‑charge Resistor (50W, 20–50Ω) across the breaker for 5 seconds.
  • Flip breaker ON again.
4. Communication Loss (Comm Fault)

The Symptom: Inverter shows “BMS Error” or “No Battery Found.”

  • Check RJ45 cable seating in CAN/RS485 ports.
  • Verify DIP Switches — Address 1 must be the Master.
  • Ensure Protocol Selection in the JK App matches your inverter brand.
5. Low Voltage Protection (UVP)

The Symptom: Screen is dark, no output at terminals.

The Cause: One or more cells hit 2.50V; BMS disconnected to prevent damage.

The Fix:

  • Apply a charging voltage to wake the BMS.
  • If inverter won’t start, use a dedicated 48V LiFePO4 charger or a brief 9V “jump‑start.”

Reset Protocol:
1. Disconnect load/charger.
2. Hold the Power Button for 10 seconds to reboot the BMS logic.
3. Re‑check system status in the app.

Congratulations! You’ve completed the AmpBox JK‑BMS Tutorial Series — your system is now optimized for maximum performance and longevity.
