The Field Runner

acc_fieldrunnerv2-main01

Lead Time: 2-3 days
A new small shoulder rig is now available. “The Field Runner” is a smaller version of our full shoulder rig version, also a bit more affordable, as it includes less parts, and is definitely more compact. We had gotten requests to make a smaller more affordable rig, so this is the what came out of those requests.

About the Name
Because this rig really came out of feedback from some of our clients and we thought it’d be cool to let our clients also name the rig. We had a short contest called “NAME THAT JAG” where we had our website visitors submit NAME ideas, what they thought this rig should be called. After receiving about 1800 NAME submissions, we narrowed it down to 5 finalists, that stood out to us, and posted them as a poll for people to vote on the finalists. Based on those votes we got the Final winner “The Field Runner”

The rig will ship in Four different versions,
The Field Runner Basic $279 and The Field Runner w/ Top Handle $309. Also now available, The Field Runner Basic w/ Offset Raised Railblock $279 and The Field Runner w/ Top Handle and Offset Raised Railblock $309.

To attach the follow focus at the same time as the handles (as shown in the photos above), can I use the 6" rods that come with the Field Runner or will I need longer rods? Also, is there anyway to attach the unit to tripod? Will your tripod plate (I think that's what it's called) attach anywhere?

Hi Misa,Im planning to get the field runner with top handle and a follow focus v3, since its shipping late july with the top handle, would the Dfocus be available by then? I can also get a cage for the 7D and it should fit right in to this rig? With the gears for the Dfocus, how small and how big a lens would it take? ive got 52, 72, 77 and 82.Is the monitor similar to the liliput 7" and what sort of mount would i need to fit into this rig? I'm also getting a Z-finder jr, should fit on this rig without a hitch?lastly, what is the difference between your rods vs zacuto rods?Cheers!DarwinNew Zealand

what's up misa! i'm almost ready to order my field runner kit with the top handle, dfocus v3 with 2 extra gears and the digifinder pro, now i would like to ask you this question, is there a possible configuration where i can add another clamp to put another rod in order to have a weight in the back because if this is the case would buy both rods and weight from you, maybe you're thinking "this guy is cheap as hell he should just get the full rig" but i'm on a very tight budget and need the extra money to buy some glass extra batteries and some cf cards for this project.congratulations on your site and all your products, you're really making it possible for those with very tight budgets.

Hi Darwin,Thanks for you interests in our products.1. At the Moment it's really hard to tell when we'll have the D|Focus in stock, We just shipped out our first batch and we're still tryin' to figure out how fast we can continue to make it versus how fast we can sell them. At the moment the demand is way bigger than how fast we can make them. However, I can tell you I just posted a small batch on the site, so you can place your order for one right now, if you want, they'll be gone pretty quickly as it's only a small batch.2. The Cage for the 7D will right on this rig no problem, You'll just need two rail blocks to mount it.3. The D|Gears should work for any size lens, so far it's work with every lens we've tried, including the 70-200 and the 85, which I believe is one of the thickest lenses. Everything else should work fine, except for the really big lenses of course.4. Yes on the monitor, same specs, only we got an updated one, which has much better contrast and color, mounting the Monitor on a rig like this if you get the cage. You can add top rods and mount it from the top with a ballhead, or you can add a cross bar for handles like in the Full Shoulder rig and add it to that bar, will have pictures of this very soon.5. Z-Finder Pro or Jr should work just fine. The Jr can be mounted with the included mounting bracket or a Sticky frame. Solution for the Gorilla plate coming soon.6. Difference between rods, is basically quality, when it comes to rods Zacuto has got it right, they have done the research and have come to produce perfect very lightweight aluminum rods. When we set out to produce our own affordable rods, we quickly realized that it's not that easy to keep the consistency of the thickness and keeping them lightweight, while manufacturing them affordably. So the Different is quality, weight and consistency. It's definitely worth spending a little more for the perfect rods.- Misa

the same way you would mount bottom rods to the bottom of the cage. The bottom plate of the cage has 1/4-20 holes, and the railblocks hold rails and has a 1/4-20 screw, so you just screw that to the bottom of the cage.

Is it safe to say that I can buy the Field Runner now and eventually upgrade it (buying extra parts) so that I have the same flexibility I would have with the full shoulder rig? I'm drawn to the shoulder rig but not sure if I need to spend the extra cash yet. Eventually I would like to mount my ikan 8" monitor and a focus puller but want to see if I can get away with just the Field Runner for now. My fear is going down a path that eventually gets me stuck and I can expand past a certain point. My other question is regarding the CounterWeight. Looking at the pictures of the Field Runner there doesn't seem to be enough rod left over to mount the CounterWeight. Do I have to buy longer rods if I want to add the Counter Weight?

Hi Sean,You will be able to upgrade from the field runner to the shoulder rig if you wish, by simply adding certain parts, you can configure your own rig if you want with the pieces, they are highly configurable. both the shoulder rig and the Field Runner come with 12" Rods to mount the shoulder pad and weight, so you can also mount it on the field runner kit. Later we will be offering longer rods and extender rods also, the only thing I can recommend is, get the kit with zacuto rods, much better for the price and also configurable, zacuto rods offer threads which allows you to add extenders to make your rods longer, if you ever need to.

Hi Alex, Yes you can add a Cage to the Field Runner easily with two railblocks, and you can mount a Zoom H4n to a single clamp alone or to a Mini Ballhead which will give you more control. You can mount the Zoom on the Field Runner on top of the shoulder pad, or next to it on the rod with a single rail clamp

No…. We don't support battery grips. There's way too many inconsistencies with grips, too many different ones with different dimensions, we just can't keep up with them. We are working on a raiser block that should work for you, but it's still not available, give us another week or so to get it all worked out.

Will it work with a battery grip attached?

  • JavaJai

Hi, I'm ready to order some gear but as I live in Australia I need to make sure that I order everything I need at once as the shipping cost make it costly to do any reordering.
Here's what's in my shopping cart so far.

    fieldrunner w top handle
    jag35 monitor
    mini ballhead mount
    single rod clamp
    DfocusV3 w 2 gears

I use a canon 5D and already have the Zoom H4N. I was looking at the cage but am not sure if I need with everything else I have ordered so far. I also have some LED litepanels that fit in the hotshoe of the 5D.

Am I missing anything? Do you think I would need the cage or is that overkill.

Is the field runner yet compatable with the zacuto gorilla plate?nI'm ready to pull the plug when it is…

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Almost, the part that we need is being manufactured now, give us a little bit more time.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Well I'm sure you can attach it, and the problems that come with that, will be determined by which battery grip your using.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

It really depends on availability, I haven’t been following our stock these past few days, we’re swamped, but I looked up your order, we should be able to ship it either Wednesday or Thursday 19th of Aug.

  • Chet

can you configure with the regular offset block ?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

This is configured with a regular offset railblock, please be more specific.

  • Chet

HI,The offset railblock on the Field Runner is straight while the one I was referring to has a Z shape
    like the Full Shoulder Rig..Thanks,Chet

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You can get the Full Shoulder Rig. Or you can get another 12" rod and the weight.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

No, it ships with 6" rods, but we do offer the 8" rods now in this page: http://jag35.com/new/products/rods/

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Oh ok, I see what you mean. We will begin offering these options very soon, also the off sets railblocks will be available for ordering them separately.

  • Alvin

Hey, I want to get the Field Runner with an added counter weight and an extra 12 inch Rod. Do you also sell the Double Rod Claps? So I can have the Shoulder Pad attached to Both rods instead of just one? Does that make sense? Let me know, thanks!

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes, that makes sense. You can buy the Rail Blocks from this page: http://jag35.com/new/products/rail-block/

Hi, I ordered the field runner on this past Friday morning, I just wanted to see how long before it ships out. I have a couple of shoots coming up and would love to us it for them. Thanks.

  • Rneuberger

This may be a stupid question, but is the 3rd handle shown in the video considered the "top handle" in the $309 package?

  • Rneuberger

After reading a little further I am gueesing the "Feild Runner w/Top Handle" is on back order because the top handles themselves are on back order? Therefore the regular field runner without the handle is available? Thanks for putting up with these questions!

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes, that is correct. We should be getting a new Batch of Top Handles, this week again.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

    yes

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

If we haven't shipped it out yet, send us an email thru our contact form, please include the email you used to pay for the order.

  • Josh

I would like to see this offered with longer front rods to allow space for a matte box

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

There's plenty of space in the 6" rods to mount a matte box, here's a sample picture: http://twitpic.com/2m900w

  • Luis Guanzon

would the tripod plate be compatible with this rig, so that i could take the handles off and mount to a tripod?

  • Luis Guanzon

what is the total weight of the field runner?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes, the tripod plate was designed to be mounted on any industry standard 15mm rods.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

    It's 3lb and 3 oz.

how would you mount the zoom h4n and the rode videomic to this rig?

  • Jayse Hansen

If I order this now – top handle with jag rods – will it come to me like he said in the new video for the x-view? http://vimeo.com/15352739

  • Misa Garcia

No, we are still working on updating the website, this will be an option that you will have to choose if you want it that way. Give us a few more days to update the website.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

This option will be available very soon, look for it this coming Monday!

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

There’s absolutely no difference. The Field Runner ships with a baseplate that basically has a flat surface with a 1/4-20 screw so you can mount your camera to it, you’ll be able to mount any camera to it, including the new Nikon D7000

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

I don’t understand your question. You can mount your T2i with battery pack right on the field runner’s baseplate, what railblock are you referring to?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes, as long as the matte box can be mounted to industry standard 15mm rods 60mm spaced apart, you should be fine.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

No, you have to select the Raised Railblock option from the drop down when you place your order. Hope this helps.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yeah, you can do so easily by adding another 12″ rod and the counter weight with a railblock: http://jag35.com/new/products/counterweight/

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yeah, you can do so easily by adding another 12″ rod and the counter weight with a railblock: http://jag35.com/new/products/counterweight/

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You simply add it to the top of the baseplate, same way you would mount your camera without the battery grip

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You simply add it to the top of the baseplate, same way you would mount your camera without the battery grip

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

I think I get your question now… if your gonna be using the battery grip with the field runner, then you can just choose the straight railblock, there’s no need for a raised railblock.

  • Chetrhoden

Hi Misa,I guess I could have been more clear!Anyway, that’s the answer I was looking for.
    Thanks very much.
    chet

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

    Hi Daniel,

    1. We like the Straight Offset when using the rig with a DSLR that has a battery grip attached to it, or if your using a 1DMk4 on it. Using the straight offset keeps the baseplate for the camera lower to compensate for the taller body cameras. So you would probably want to use a Raised offset railblock when using the mid or smaller body cameras, this gives you a little more hight so the camera comes right up to your eye when using it with a viewfinder. Keep in mind that this is relative to your size of course. I just explained what works for most people, but for short people like me, I can use the straight offset for a small body camera, no problem, because I’m a small guy. I hope that makes sense.

    2. At the moment it’s taking us about 3 – 5 days to ship all orders, from the time the order is placed, after we ship, international orders, can take up to 7 – 14 days in transit depending on where you are and customs.

    3. You will probably want the 5D/7D version, I think the 60D’s LCD screen is closer to the 7D screen. You can choose the straight or raised offset railblock in the options when placing your order: http://jag35.com/new/products/digi-runner/

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Not very balanced at all.. You should get the Full Shoulder Rig, which is balanced with a weight in the back!

  • http://twitter.com/ThaBrotherz ThaBrotherz

    Hi Mate,

I noticed in the 2nd demo video there with the raised version of the “filed runner” there is different shoulder pad attached, that looks more comfortable than the basic “field Runner” model . How can I order this version? does not seem to be an option for it. looks way more comfortable

    Jords,

    Melbourne Australia

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

All our shoulder pads are now shipping with that version, just gotta update pictures.

  • Aottens

    Hello,

I would like to order this rig for the new upcoming Nikon D7000. What type do I need? The raised one? Or the normal one? I’d also like to order a DFocus. How is this going to work out with the shipping costs, because I live in The Netherlands, how will it work with taxes and that kind a thing? Thanks.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

The offset railblock height is optional, completely up to you, we made the two different options, mainly for people who wanted to use a battery grip on the field runner kit, if you plan on using a battery grip on your camera, then you can go with the straight option, as the battery grip already raises the camera with the battery grip, if you don’t plan on using it with a battery grip, then go with the raised version, if you think you’ll need the camera to sit up a bit higher. It’s up to you, I find it that I can use it either way, the difference is very slight.

All international orders are shipped USPS priority unless you choose rush, then we’ll ship your order USPS Express, and it can take up anywhere from 7 – 14 days depending on your country and how long it takes to clear customs. I don’t know exactly how the taxes fees work in your country, but we don’t change any taxes on our end for any international order.

    Hope this helps

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

    1. The railblocks are basically any blocks that are designed to grip the rods together. There are different types of railblocks we used in our rigs, single railblocks (used to old the shoulder pad to one rail) or double railblocks (used to hold two rails w/ a 1/4-20 screw in the center) or the in this case the offset railblock, which is used in the center of the rig, to offset the shoulder back side of the rig, to the front section, which holds the camera. This railblock was designed to offset the camera from the rest of the rig and place the camera right in front of you, so you can bring the camera right up to your eye and use it with a viewfinder. The pictures show a straight offset railblock, when you look at the railblock horizontally, it offsets the rig straight to one side. The other option is to choose the Raised Offset Railblock, which basically offsets the camera and lifts it up a bit to get it up even closer to your eye, depending on how high you might need it.

We offer these two options basically because there’s a lot of people who insist on using battery grips with their cameras. If you are using a battery grip with your camera, then you really wouldn’t need the raised railblock, because the battery grip will already raise your camera quite a bit. If you are not using a battery grip, and you want the camera to sit a little higher, then you would get the raised option. Hope this helps.

    2. You can mount it to a tripod, but for that you’ll need this extra piece, we call it a tripod plate: http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/ or you can find it in the Related Products section of this page.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

No it doesn’t, you would have to order that separately http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/

  • chris

Is the shoulder pad in the Field Runner the same shoulder pad that comes in the Straight Rig?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes, it’s the same one, and they are both the new curved shoulder pad. We’ll need to update the picture on the site.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Not sure what the problem might be… They are all in stock at the moment except for the D|Focus v3 you’ll need to use the Pre-order button for that one. Everything else should be fine.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Sure you can do it. Buy the kit with either one and then you can buy the other offset railblock thru this page: http://jag35.com/new/products/offset-railblock/

  • Matt

    Hello,

Really interested in the Field Runner. Question. Is there room to attach your tripod plate along with the D Focus so the entire rig can be transfered to a tripod quickly?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes, all you will need is to get the Tripod Plate also: http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes, you can, all our Shoulder Pads are now shipped this way. If need only the shoulder pad you can order it from this page: http://jag35.com/new/products/shoulder-pad/
We’ll be updating pictures very soon.

  • Magnus Persson

Just so I understand correctly … If I buy a Field Runner today, I get the new curved shoulder pad?

  • Kevin Garcia

    Hi Magnus,

Yes all Field Runners ship with the curved shoulder pad now.

  • Kevin Garcia

Yes we do, we ship worldwide.

  • Kevin Garcia

  • Kevin Garcia

Hi, If you ordered the Field Runner on the weekend you will receive a free top handle even though it was not listed on the receipt.

  • Kevin Garcia

Yes the Redrock Micro Focus will work great with our Field Runner. The special ended on Sunday 12 AM, sorry about that.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

That really a matter of taste. If you want the camera to sit up really high, then go ahead and get the raised railblock, if it was me, I’d just get the straight railblock, since the battery grip will already raise the camera enough.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes, we ship our products worldwide!

hey Misa, love the new colors, i notices that from the video the handle are sitting quite high alrready with a straight railblock, n does the extended handles work with this rig, just a thought with a raised block would make arms get tired quicker. cheers

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yeah, the Extended Handles would definitely work with the field runner.

  • Kevin Garcia

    Hi Roger,
You have to order the field runner separately

  • Kevin Garcia

Yes the field runner will work great with the HF s100

  • Kevin Garcia

We are taking orders for the D|Focus V3 but you have to place your order through the “pre-Order” button in the center of the D|Focus Page. We are currently backordered on the D|Focus V3 there is a 3 week turn around time from the day that you place the pre-order.

  • Bill

I came over here from cheesycam (http://www.cheesycam.com) – his Field Runner shows double rods leading to the shoulder pad, and a counterweight, which are not visible in the photos above. Which is correct?

  • Djansen

Will I have a problem using the field runner with a canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS?

  • rokksjunk

is there a way to place orders for just the Straight Offset Railblock??

  • Michael Kooren

looks like the thing I need. Is it wise to order a “cage ” to go with it ( for the extras)

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes it will, but not with longer lenses of course, if you use the longer 70-200 you’ll need at least the 8″ rods in the front, All other lenses should be ok with the 6″ rods.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

sorry for the delay in getting back to you, we’ve been getting an unusual amount of comments on the site this past week, we can’t keep up with them all. About your question, at the moment it’s taking us about 2 weeks to ship shoulder kits w/ D|Focus sometimes sooner but that’s our average.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

We can ship it overnight, when we get to your order, however at the time, we’ve got over 200 pending orders, so it might take us a bit to get your order out. It’s taking us between a week and half to two weeks to ship most orders that include full rigs. Field Runners are shipping a bit faster than that, but certainly not overnight.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

If your using the Battery grip on any camera, then your camera is already raised quite a bit because of the height of your battery grip, so I would say, get the Straight offset railblock. You don’t need it raised even more.

    Hope this helps.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Sorry about that, he made a mistake about the type of rig he had…. His kit is actually a Full Shoulder Rig, which you can find on this page: http://jag35.com/new/products/shoulder-rig/

Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

The field runner ships with 6″ rods in the front. The 70-200mm requires you use a minimun of 8″ rods. We will be offering the option of ordering the Field Runner with 8″ rods in the front shortly! Hope this helps.

  • Kevin Garcia

The Cage is compatible with the Field Runner if you wan to out the cage on the field runner.

  • Kevin Garcia

Yes you can place your order through here : http://jag35.com/new/products/offset-railblock/

Does the offset rail block work upside down? With the idea of lowering the camera, rather than raising it.

  • http://twitter.com/ron_sparks Ron Sparks

Hi need some set up advice,
I have a t2i and Z-finder, I was thinking about getting the Field Runner and the D|Foucs you guys offer.

1 – Can I use the Jag35 rods or do I need the Zacuto rods?
2 – can I use the z-finder and the d|foucs on this rig?

    thanks for the direction.

  • http://twitter.com/AdamASAV Adam Stevenson

Dont know if its possible but could you mount the raised arm upside down then you have a choice if you want to use a battery grip or not?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

    1. You can use the Jag35 Rods no problem, the rods won’t make a difference in the setup other, the only difference will be quality and weight.
    2. Yes you can use both on this Kit no problem.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You don’t have to use the Raised offset railblock upside down, all you have to do is choose the Straight Railblock instead, then you can just mount your camera with the battery grip on top, and you should be fine. Hope this helps.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You can just get the Straight offset Railblock. I’m sure you can use it upside down, I just don’t think it’s necessary to do that.

What I need? and how soon you can delivery? I’m leaving early next week, please help

  • Blove

What would I need to mount the jag monitor to the field runner?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You know that you can just use the tripod plate (http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/) under the Field Runner and mount the whole kit to a tripod, this way if you have a Follow Focus or mattebox mounted, you can keep them on the rig.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

    Nope.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You can simply use our Tripod Plate (http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/) and mount any full rig to a tripod, with no problems.

Yes, if you order a rig and also include the D|Focus in your order, we will hold your order ’till we have a D|Focus ready to ship and ship it all out together. Unless you want to pay for shipping separate, we can split up the order and ship you whatever we have ready first in a separate box.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You can either do it with a Single Railblock and ballhead mount (http://jag35.com/new/products/ballhead-mount/) or a Single Railblock and an accessory arm (http://jag35.com/new/products/accessory-arm/)

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You can either do it with a Single Railblock and ballhead mount (http://jag35.com/new/products/ballhead-mount/) or a Single Railblock and an accessory arm (http://jag35.com/new/products/accessory-arm/)

At the moment it’s taking us about a week and half to ship out orders, from the time they are placed. Especially with the crazy holidays, it might take us a bit longer. Sorry about that.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

The options are quite simple. The Basic doesn’t include the Top Handle, the other one does, you can select Jag35 Rods or Zacuto rods, your choice, and the other options is either 6″ rods on the front or 8″ rods for longer lenses.

The final option is to get either the Straight Offset Railblock or the Raised Option, the raised will basically bring your camera up slightly higher, this is also optional, both will work ok, but the idea is that if you use a battery grip, and your camera already sits up higher, then you don’t need it raised any more, if you plan on using the camera without a battery grip, then you can get the raised option, to bring camera up a little higher, if you need it higher.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

It’s not straight out of the box, but you can make it tripod mountable by adding the tripod plate: http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Not really. Mainly because we already offer that. All you have to do is get a 12″ rod and a counterweight:

    http://jag35.com/new/products/counterweight/
    http://jag35.com/new/products/rods/

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

I don’t think your height will determine what rods you should use, rather your lens length. If you plan to use longer lenses, then I definitely suggest you use 8″ rods. If you plan on mounting a follow focus and a matte box and feel you might need more rod space, then I definitely suggest you get the 8″ rods.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You can buy the Single Railblock: http://jag35.com/new/products/single-railblock/
together with a ballhead mount: http://jag35.com/new/products/ballhead-mount/
    or an Articulating arm: http://jag35.com/new/products/accessory-arm/

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You either use it with the sticky frame, or if you want to use the Gorilla Plate, then you can use this DSLR Stand instead: http://jag35.com/new/products/quick-release-dslr-stand/

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

It’s not the most comfortable, specially if your doing long shoots, most of the weight is on your arms, definitely suggest you go with a counterweight rig if your looking for something comfortable, if your shooting for long periods of time.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

that was a few weekends ago.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Difference between the Basic and Top Handle one is that the basic doesn’t include the Top handle, the top handle version of course, does include the top handle. Yes you can use the Basic 6″ with your 5DmkII, the 6″ means you get 6″ rods in the front, or you have the option of getting it with 8″ rods in the front in case you want to use your rig with longer lenses, like the 70-200mm

    - Misa

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

The straight rig or the Straight offset railblock.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

It wasn’t designed for that, it was design for a DSLR. We haven’t tested it with a video camera.

  • Cdub77

I’ll be using an LCD viewfinder with the rig. Would you suggest the offset rail block or straight?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes, you can, but you’ll need to also get the tripod plate piece, which you can find on this page: http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/

You can attach a follow focus and matte box just fine, just keep in mind that if you want to mount longer lenses, you should get the 8″ rods

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

The Field Runner is a great starting point kit, it’s very compact and very affordable, plus you can always build up from there and convert it into a full shoulder rig with counter balanced weights, and continue to add more accessories. The other thing you might also like, to shoot video with DSLR’s is a viewfinder. We have two affordable ones that we like, the Monitor X or the DigiFinder, or if your budget allows it, the Zacuto Z-Finder is always everyone’s number one choice. Other than that, a follow focus will help with critical focusing, making easy to rack focus while shooting video. Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You mean Straight Offset railblock or Raised Offset railblock correct? It really is up to you, if you’ll be using your camera straight without a Battery Grip, then you can just get the raised option, but if you plan on using a battery grip, then go with the straight option, hope this helps.

  • Rogermarti

    Hi Misa,

I ordered the field runner plus viewfinder + FF last 30th of november.

Do you think I am going to receive my purchase soon?

I live in Spain so I suppose I will get these products next year (january I guess).

Do you have any updates of it?

    Thanks!

  • Alex L

I’m a lefty .. Can this rig be co figured for me?

  • Eecal38

Can you attach a canon vixia Hf S100 to the rig.

  • Ibrobawa

you guys should do a field runner/follow focus combo. that would be really awesome. so i can buy both and an extra 12″ to mount a counter weight. please keep us posted on deals thanks.

  • Peter Kreindl

is it possible to add a hdmi monitor to the rig if there will be also a tripod plate, a single rail block for the zoom H4N on it?

  • Memocalaca

Hola, voy a utilizar mi 550D con battery grip y el Beachtek DXA-5Da voy a tener algún problema para encajar el follow focus? Gracias.

  • Foto

I Ordered it on 3 December and payed via paypal. But did not get any information about shipping

    When will it be shipped?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Your order is going out with Todays mail, will have a tracking number for you shortly!

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Sure, all you gotta do is flip the offset railblock and you can have the shoulder piece on the opposite side.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

This kit was designed to work specifically with DSLR Cameras, it hasn’t been tested with video camcorders, you might run into height issues on the DSLR stand.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Stay tuned for more deals coming soon. Sorry we haven’t offered any combos that include the D|Focus because it’s always sold out, we’re always working hard to try to catch up, but it just hasn’t happened, and we hate havin’ to hold orders because one of the products isn’t ready.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Sure… there’s plenty of Rod space available to mount other things.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

my records don’t show any order placed under the email address you used to placed this comment. However, if you ordered on Dec. 3rd and it’s taking us about 2 – 3 weeks to ship field runner orders, you can expect us to ship it either at the end of this week or early next week. As soon as we ship it out, we’ll be sending you an email with your tracking number.

  • JB

Would this rig and your follow focus work with a 60d and Letus Hawk viewfinder?

  • Ed Adams

If there is a delay in shipping this item, why does that page not say that? Those of us who recently order the ‘Field Runner’ were never told that there would be a delay. I ordered on Dec.3, 2010 WHEN WILL THE ITEM SHIP and why did you charge my credit card the day I placed the order? Is this a common practice for your company? Reputable business organizations rarely charge accounts before mdse ships…

  • Steven

The best part about Jag35 (compared to the competition) is that all the accessories I plan on buying WONT cost more than my 5D & lens! Yay!

  • Mike

Do you guys sell the shoulder pad separately that comes with the field runner? With only the single rail blocks. I know you guys sell the other shoulder pad with the dual rail blocks. Just curious

  • Memocalaca

    Gracias Misa,

¿Entonces necesito estos 3 elementos, o podría montar el DXA-5Da bajo mi battery grip y el D/Riser para elevar el D/Focus? ¿O el D/Riser solo eleva el D/Focus en el caso de utilizar battery Grip?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes it would work, but you’ll probably need to use the D|Riser
    http://jag35.com/new/products/driser/

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Our website doesn’t state this, because it changes every day. The demand on this product has been very unpredictable. Currently we’re using Paypal to accept credit card payments for online sales, we have no way of control when your credit card get’s charged.

I’m looking up your order, and it looks like we have everything ready to go, should be going out with todays mail. As soon as it get’s proceed we’ll have a tracking number for you, sent to your email. Sorry for the delay.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You can just buy this one: http://jag35.com/new/products/shoulder-pad/ and then make a note when you place the order and let us know you want the single railblocks instead, we’ll exchange them for you before we ship out.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Si no creo que el D|Riser elevara el D|Focus tanto así.

  • MIke

Is there a tripod/monopod mount on the bottom of the rig just in case I want to take shoulder pad off and just mount the rig on a tripod? If not, is there an option to add one?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

It’s an add on, we call it a tripod plate: http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/

  • Mathias_nl

Hi, what ist the best way to mount a Zoom H4n on it?
And how long will it aprox take to ship it to Germany?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

The easiest way is to mount it to a Single Railblock: http://jag35.com/new/products/single-railblock/ with this you’ll be able to mount it anywhere on a 15mm rod.
You can also add a Ballhead mount to that to give you complete control over where you wanna place your Zoom H4n: http://jag35.com/new/products/ballhead-mount/

    Hope this helps.

  • Profedfoster

I received my Field Runner yesterday. It came right on time. I opened the box and put everything together with ease. Then, my wife confiscated, re-boxed, and wrapped it. Now, I have to wait another week.
From the limited time I got to actually hold it in my hand I could tell it was very well made and will fit in well with the rest of my kit. I’m already dreaming of expanding it in several areas with your other products.
    Peace

  • Mr. Cockburns

Is this only for DSLRs? Can I put on HV20 on it instead?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

That’s great to hear! Hope you get to use it soon. Thanks for the Feedback!

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Correct, this was designed to be used with DSLR cameras. We haven’t tested it with any camcorders. I believe you can mount it fine, but we don’t offer support for mounting a 35mm adapter to it. A guy sent us this a few days, he mounted his Sony NEX-VG10 on it: http://bit.ly/eWS3MO Hope this helps.

  • Zikpo007

If i place an order today, when will i receive my product by? how fast you guys ship?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

At the moment it’s taking us about a week and a half to ship Field Runner kits. If you order today we’ll be shipping by Dec. 31 or Jan 3 – 4 around there. We can’t guarantee delivery dates as of now, just an estimate.

  • TH

what length lens do you think would require upgrading to the 8″ rails?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Most lenses will work ok with the 6″ rods, but we found that you need 8″ if you want to use the 70-200mm lenses.

  • Tompierrepont

First time finding this product and it looks so good! + affordable. I’m ordering asap, also big thanks for shipping outside the US. you wont believe the pain and misery i go through when i see a nice product but i just can’t get it!

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Thanks. We’re working on dealers outside of the U.S. so you can buy in your own country, but it’s gonna take us some time.

  • Joostwierenga

If I want to use a 20mm (canon 2.8) on a 7D (no BG), will the 8″ rods be visible on screen? I prefer to have longer rods for maybe a mattebox etc. maybe 6″ is a better option?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You should be fine with the 8″, if they show in your lens, then all you need to do is push the rods a little further back, and you should be fine.

  • Joostwierenga

    Thank you!

  • Mgriffinphoto

Very low budget indie/freelance here, looking for the most affordable/diverse product you guys sell. How does the steadyness of this compare to your other rigs, and I see your coming out with your own remote FF, would it be better to wait and get that, or do you manual FF work with this rig? Another shooter I know just picked up your straight rig and I was pleased with the build quality your pictures do not do it justice, in person it feels a lot better! Hope to do business with you soon

  • Phil Arntz

    Hey,

Could you tell me, how long could you aproximatly shoot with this?!
Is it comfortable or are your hands a little bit cramped?

    Cheers

  • Don Monroe

I was thinking about mounting a follow focus– if I get rid of one handle and put my free hand on the follow focus, will that still support the rig?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

It’s steady enough, but it definitely requires more concentration, and you won’t last with this rig for very long, as it’s not balanced. It’s great for short shots here and there, but not for a very long shoot.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You definitely won’t last too long with this setup. Your arms will get tired. I’d say you really can’t go over an hour with a rig like this, you’ll definitely need to take breaks quite often. I don’t think you’ll notice as much in the hands, but your full arms holding the weight of the rig up in that position will definitely tire you out. Also because the rig isn’t balanced, and is front heavy, you’ll feel it in your arms. It’s a good starting point, but definitely suggest building up to a balanced rig if you plan on doing longer shoots.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You can definitely hold up the Field Runner with one hand, but you really can’t support the weight by the D|Focus knob, all the weight of the rig will be held by your right hand, and since the Field Runner isn’t counter balanced, you really won’t last very long, your arm will be very tired. It’s why we’re working on the new Electronic Follow Focus, you can keep your hands on the handles at all times, and still control both focus and zoom, its gonna be great.

  • Antoni

    Hola chicos:

Estoy a punto de encargar el Field Runner junto con el Dfocus. Mi intención es añadirle el contrapeso para obtener un mejor balance y poder montar el rig sobre un trípode. ¿Sería ésta la configuración que necesito?

    1. Field Runner kit
    2. Single 15mm rod
    3. Counter weight
    4. Tripod plate

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Si, es correcto, solo que el Single 15mm rod es de 12″ (pulgadas) pero eso es todo

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

El field runner solo incluye el Offset Railblock, la unica opción es Raised (si lo quieres usar sin Battery Grip) or Straight (si vas a usar battery grip).

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You can definitely update this kit to include a counter balance. We offer weights: http://bit.ly/hxGvmI and you’ll need an extra single 12″ rod: http://bit.ly/dKT2zF You can also upgrade your single railblocks to these: http://bit.ly/fZBWbD and then you can use your single Railblocks to mount accessories.

I guess it’s possible to mount a monitor on it, but this kit isn’t really setup for that, this kit has an offset railblock in the middle, so that the camera sits right in front of your face, so you can bring the camera right up to your eye and use with a viewfinder. If your planning on shooting with a monitor, we suggest something more like our straight rig: http://bit.ly/buDSR8 This setup places your camera off to the side, so that you can have a clear view of your monitor.

    Hope this helps.

  • Mark

so in order to balance it would you recommend getting weights for the back?
    are the other rigs balanced?
    thanks

  • Mark

can the side handles be used with the field runner for extra stability?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes, that’s what they were made for.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

yes and yes, the other rigs include a counterweight in the back.

  • Raul

    Do you ship to Mexico?

  • Kevin Garcia

Yes, we ship all of our products worldwide.

  • JH

Sorry, I have ANOTHER question, but this could be a deal breaker or maker. :)
If you were to mount a wait on the back of this, get a offset for to make it in front of your face more, and got extended handles, would this make this rig be able to not tire you out for about as long as the Shoulder rig?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes you can definitely turn this Field Runner into a Full Shoulder Rig if you wanted by adding the parts. The field runner is made out of the same pieces that the Full Shoulder rig is made out of, so it makes it easy. And havin’ an counter balance weight on your rig will definitely help to make this more comfortable and will help you last longer in shoots. The Field Runner bundle already includes an Offset Railblock so you should be good there.

Also, you might wanna consider just getting the Full Shoulder Rig, it’s already setup that way: http://jag35.com/new/products/shoulder-rig/

Hope this helps let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Mike

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but what is the purpose for getting the 8″ rods vs the standard 6″ ones?

  • Steve

I have a quick release plate mounted to my camera already for attaching to a Monfrotto monopod (561BHDV). Do you have a quick release system I can mount to the field runner that is compatible?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Only reason to get 8″ rods instead of the 6″ is if you think you’ll need extra rod space below your camera. say for example if you plan on using longer lenses, like a 70-200mm and want to mount a mattebox in front of your lens, that’s mounted to the rods. Stuff like that.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You can use the Tripod Plate under the Field Runner and mount your quick release plate to that and mount the full entire kit to a tripod plate if you want, I hope that’s what you mean.

Here’s a link to our tripod plate: http://bit.ly/tripod-plate

  • Steve Riley

Could you change the front handle rods for times when you need to mount a monitor on the offset model?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

    yes completely customizable.

  • WavematterProductions

Got my field runner a couple of weeks ago. already in love. one question…the small camera mount plate for the dslr to perch on has 3 small, oddly spaced screws that are removable with a hex key. What are the for? if i leave them screwed in, they actually scratch the underside of my camera.

  • Jeffro

Hey, is this kit currently in stock? Will it ship in 2 to 3 days as mentioned above?

    Thanks!

  • Mike

Would the tripod plate go on the rails right behind the DSLR stand?

  • http://jag35.com Stacie

Yes that would work but ideally it should be were your rig is most balance.

  • http://jag35.com Stacie

Yes it is on stock and will be shipped two to three days.

  • http://jag35.com Stacie

Those three little screws are locking pins, depending on what camera you have. 5D, 7D or T2i, you raise the individual pin to lock the camera from moving out of it’s place. They are removable so you can take them off if you don’t need them.

  • Jjcoste

Hi, can I attach a mattebox to this rig ? Thanks

  • Stephen

would the process of attaching a counterweight to the back of this be easy to do? If so, then would doing it place this rig on par with the full shoulder rig as far as stability is concerned?
    Thanks :)

  • http://jag35.com Stacie

Yes it can be attach to the Field Runner.

  • http://jag35.com Stacie

Yes a counter weight can be compatible to The Field Runner, all you need is another 12″ rod and the counter weight and the stability should be the same

  • Gabriel

Are the foam handle grips removable? And if so, would they be able to be replaced with bike handlebar grips?

  • http://jag35.com Stacie

Yes, We have never tested that so we don’t know how to advise.

  • Jonathan

If I order the Field Runner with a raised offset railblock, how do I use a straight one? I don’t see a straight railblock for purchase.

  • http://jag35.com Stacie

The option is right under the price.

  • Philipp S.

Hey, is there a way to put the field runner rig onto a tripod?

  • http://jag35.com Stacie

    Yes, you’ll need a tripod plate (http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/)

  • Nativeweapon

Hi. Two questions. Can you attach the articulating arm to this rig so that you can use an lcd monitor ? Secondly, is there any way you can attach the top handle to the two main rods so that it could work as a chest brace ?

    Many thanks

  • Chris

Question. I would like to get the following but it seems as if it is not offered. The X-Runner Bundle (raised) with a top handle and 8″ Jag Rods. I assume there is some way to put a bundle like this together, would it be best to call?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Sorry we don’t have enough staff at the moment to accept phone calls, but all the pieces are available on the website.

Add the Field Runner kit to your cart with the options you want.
You can add the Monitor X to your cart from this page: http://jag35.com/new/products/monitor-x/

Then you can check out with all the items you want in one order. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other question

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

    1. Yes, you can add the articulating arm, by using one of our Single Railblocks: http://jag35.com/new/products/single-railblock/

    2. I don’t really understand your question. I can’t even picture that, your talking about this Top Handle correct? http://jag35.com/new/products/rail-top-handle/

  • Chris

I guess where I am going with the question and I probably should have put the question on the X-Runner page but would it possible for you guys to add more options to the X-Runner bundles? Right now, you only offer straight and raised, can you add an X-Bundle with top handle and different sized rods?
For example the following additional options would be awesome:
    X-Runner Top Handle w/ Jag35 Rods 6″
    X-Runner Top Handle w/ Jag35 Rods 8″
    X-Runner w/ Jag35 Rods 6″
    X-Runner w/ Jag35 Rods 8″

  • http://jag35.com Stacie

    We can’t offer every configuration.

  • aNDy

I have a GH1 and Canon FD 85mm L lens, and I am trying to buy a Zoom Lens. Does it work with my equipment? I also need a Follow Focus.

  • Nativeweapon

Hi, Is there any chance of throwing in a free top handle as a substitute to the digi finder as you’ve run out of stock for the 7d ?

  • aNDy

I have a GH1 and I am looking for this product. Also, i need a follow focus for Canon Fd 85mm L lens. Would you please suggest if this product works with GH1 or not and which FF do you recommend?
    Thannks

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

All those options are coming, sorry about the delay, but at the moment we’re limited by the amount of options we can offer thru the simple paypal buttons. We’re working as fast as we can to complete our shopping cart site, should be ready very soon. Stay tuned for that.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Sorry that sale is now over, we don’t have any more DigiFinders at all.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

The Field Runner should work with your GH1 no problem, I suggest you go with the D|Focus as your follow focus, effective and affordable (j35.us/dfocusv3)

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Not sure I understand your question, but if you mean you wanna have both options a raised railblock, but then you’ll also want to switch to a straight railblock, then you can order the straight railblock from this page: j35.us/offset-rb

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

The Foam Grips are not removable, they are glued together, it is possible to mount bike handlebar grips on our handles, but I assume you’ll have a bit of a hard time removing the glued foam, might be able to send you some without the foam grips, if you’re interested.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Also keep in mind that the Full Shoulder Rig also has separated handles in the from, which definitely add to the comfort of holding the rig, and the comfort levels directly affects the stability of the rig as well… so you might also wanna get an i90 railblock (j35.us/i90-rb) and another single rod to spread out the handle grips, this will also make a big difference, as will the extended handles (j35.us/extended-handles)

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

    Yes. Yes it does.

  • Mike

What is the benefit of the Zacuto Rod upgrade?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You can read more about the Rod Differences from this page: http://j35.us/jag35-rods

  • Stephen

nevermind to my old questions, i bought one and it’s great! :)
    Thanks for all the help!

    Hi Mathieu,

    1. Don’t understand your question, please describe. Does what stand horizontally? Raised option is not very complicated, it basically means that it will ship to you with a Raised Railblock like this (http://j35.us/offset-rb)

    2. Yes, we use an i90 railblock for that (http://j35.us/i90-rb) we also offer the complete kit, ready to go (http://j35.us/side-handles) and you can also use our Extended Handles (http://j35.us/extended-handles)

Very configurable, to fit your custom needs. Hope this helps, Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi I was wondering if i decided to use a battery grip with my camera I would not have to select the option for a raised mount? Or would you suggest not to use a battery grip.

    Thanks,

  • Mathieu Preaux

I’ve seen after the option for a larger handles !

My first question was Is the raised version put the shoulder pad and the end of the handles at the same level then the whole thing is flat on the floor or a table
cause apparently with the straight version you have a 30 deg inclination

I’ve seen after the option for a larger handles !

My first question was Is the raised version put the shoulder pad and the end of the handles at the same level then the whole thing is flat on the floor or a table
cause apparently with the straight version you have a 30 deg inclination

    thks

Oh I see what you mean… I believe it’s more straight of course, but probably not exactly straight, there might still be an inclination, it isn’t intended to be a leveled table.

I honestly, would suggest against the battery grip, for a couple of reasons,

    1. it’ll raise your camera a lot, meaning that now the distance from where your lens sits and where your bottom rods are will be drastically changed,

    2. it’ll also offset your camera both front to back and side to side, so if you later wanted to add a follow focus you might have a hard time, and if you later want to add a mattebox that mounts to the rails, it’s not gonna lineup correctly anymore.

Don’t get me wrong, it definitely possible, it can be done, it’s just not ideal, and you’ll have to deal with some custom modifications that you’ll have to figure out on your own, based on which model / brand battery grip you get, as they are all different sizes, there’s no standards.

Kevin told me about the Rod Raiser that’ll work http://jag35.com/new/products/rod-raiser/
    I plan to purchase myself!

What counter weight solution do you suggest for the field runner? Since it only has one rail.

  • Prodigynumber1

I’m wondering whether to get the straight or the raised railblock. Is one generally more preferred over the other? I’m about 6′ 1″ (I don’t know if that makes a difference)

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

you can either mount our weight, to only one rod, should work ok, or you can just add another rod to your kit, just buy a single rod from this page: j35.us/jag35-rods

you can also replace your shoulder pad single railblocks with these j35.us/railblock to make it truly legit.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

usually the deciding factor is weather you’ll be using a battery grip with your camera or not, if you are, then there’s no need for a raised railblock, as your camera will already be raised quite a bit, from the battery grip, it’s also left up to preference.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes of course, you can choose those options if you order from our new shopping cart: http://j35.us/thefieldrunner

what’s the difference if i get the 6′” rods from the 8″ rods?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

8″ front rods, will give you more room to mount your Follow Focus and Mattebox as well other accessories.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

depends on what you order, add it to your cart and you will see a shipping estimate.

    Hello,

I just bought the Field Runner bundle in July which came with.the follow focus, I was wondering if there was any way to connect an h4n zoom to it without a cage? I saw a video on youtube of Jehu and he did not have the cage, but that was the set up I wanted for my Canon 60d.

    Thank You,
    Antonio

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Sure, you can attach any device using a Single Railblock and either a Ballhead mount or an accessory arm. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.

  • Antonio

Will I need an extra rod for this, because of the single railblock? If not I get how the H4n connects to those things but I don’t understand how to get those on the railblock.

  • Yoran Staas

    Hi,

I was wondering how much the Field Runner weights! Could you please let me know? Thanks!

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Hi there, I don’t know exactly how much it weights right at the moment, but it will vary depending on which options you choose. I will definitely weight everything this coming week and start posting weights on the site. If I had to guess I would say it weights about 2.5lb or so.
