Later we will be offering longer rods and extender rods also, the only thing I can recommend is, get the kit with zacuto rods, much better for the price and also configurable, zacuto rods offer threads which allows you to add extenders to make your rods longer, if you ever need to.

No…. We don't support battery grips. There's way too many inconsistencies with grips, too many different ones with different dimensions, we just can't keep up with them. We are working on a raiser block that should work for you, but it's still not available, give us another week or so to get it all worked out.

raiser block sounds fine to me (if you need a beta tester let me know) whatever works.I played around with the fieldrunner w/top handle and follow focus with a LCDVF viewfinder and the combo is prefect, feels solid and the follow focus works like a charm.

There’s absolutely no difference. The Field Runner ships with a baseplate that basically has a flat surface with a 1/4-20 screw so you can mount your camera to it, you’ll be able to mount any camera to it, including the new Nikon D7000

Yes, as long as the matte box can be mounted to industry standard 15mm rods 60mm spaced apart, you should be fine.

I think I get your question now… if your gonna be using the battery grip with the field runner, then you can just choose the straight railblock, there’s no need for a raised railblock.

Hi Daniel,

1. We like the Straight Offset when using the rig with a DSLR that has a battery grip attached to it, or if your using a 1DMk4 on it. Using the straight offset keeps the baseplate for the camera lower to compensate for the taller body cameras. So you would probably want to use a Raised offset railblock when using the mid or smaller body cameras, this gives you a little more hight so the camera comes right up to your eye when using it with a viewfinder. Keep in mind that this is relative to your size of course. I just explained what works for most people, but for short people like me, I can use the straight offset for a small body camera, no problem, because I’m a small guy. I hope that makes sense.

2. At the moment it’s taking us about 3 – 5 days to ship all orders, from the time the order is placed, after we ship, international orders, can take up to 7 – 14 days in transit depending on where you are and customs.

I noticed in the 2nd demo video there with the raised version of the “filed runner” there is different shoulder pad attached, that looks more comfortable than the basic “field Runner” model . How can I order this version? does not seem to be an option for it. looks way more comfortable

I would like to order this rig for the new upcoming Nikon D7000. What type do I need? The raised one? Or the normal one? I’d also like to order a DFocus. How is this going to work out with the shipping costs, because I live in The Netherlands, how will it work with taxes and that kind a thing? Thanks.

The offset railblock height is optional, completely up to you, we made the two different options, mainly for people who wanted to use a battery grip on the field runner kit, if you plan on using a battery grip on your camera, then you can go with the straight option, as the battery grip already raises the camera with the battery grip, if you don’t plan on using it with a battery grip, then go with the raised version, if you think you’ll need the camera to sit up a bit higher. It’s up to you, I find it that I can use it either way, the difference is very slight.

All international orders are shipped USPS priority unless you choose rush, then we’ll ship your order USPS Express, and it can take up anywhere from 7 – 14 days depending on your country and how long it takes to clear customs. I don’t know exactly how the taxes fees work in your country, but we don’t change any taxes on our end for any international order.

1. The railblocks are basically any blocks that are designed to grip the rods together. There are different types of railblocks we used in our rigs, single railblocks (used to old the shoulder pad to one rail) or double railblocks (used to hold two rails w/ a 1/4-20 screw in the center) or the in this case the offset railblock, which is used in the center of the rig, to offset the shoulder back side of the rig, to the front section, which holds the camera. This railblock was designed to offset the camera from the rest of the rig and place the camera right in front of you, so you can bring the camera right up to your eye and use it with a viewfinder. The pictures show a straight offset railblock, when you look at the railblock horizontally, it offsets the rig straight to one side. The other option is to choose the Raised Offset Railblock, which basically offsets the camera and lifts it up a bit to get it up even closer to your eye, depending on how high you might need it.

We offer these two options basically because there’s a lot of people who insist on using battery grips with their cameras. If you are using a battery grip with your camera, then you really wouldn’t need the raised railblock, because the battery grip will already raise your camera quite a bit. If you are not using a battery grip, and you want the camera to sit a little higher, then you would get the raised option. Hope this helps.

That really a matter of taste. If you want the camera to sit up really high, then go ahead and get the raised railblock, if it was me, I’d just get the straight railblock, since the battery grip will already raise the camera enough.

Yes it will, but not with longer lenses of course, if you use the longer 70-200 you’ll need at least the 8″ rods in the front, All other lenses should be ok with the 6″ rods.

sorry for the delay in getting back to you, we’ve been getting an unusual amount of comments on the site this past week, we can’t keep up with them all. About your question, at the moment it’s taking us about 2 weeks to ship shoulder kits w/ D|Focus sometimes sooner but that’s our average.

We can ship it overnight, when we get to your order, however at the time, we’ve got over 200 pending orders, so it might take us a bit to get your order out. It’s taking us between a week and half to two weeks to ship most orders that include full rigs. Field Runners are shipping a bit faster than that, but certainly not overnight.

If your using the Battery grip on any camera, then your camera is already raised quite a bit because of the height of your battery grip, so I would say, get the Straight offset railblock. You don’t need it raised even more.

1. You can use the Jag35 Rods no problem, the rods won’t make a difference in the setup other, the only difference will be quality and weight.
2. Yes you can use both on this Kit no problem.

You don’t have to use the Raised offset railblock upside down, all you have to do is choose the Straight Railblock instead, then you can just mount your camera with the battery grip on top, and you should be fine. Hope this helps.

You can just get the Straight offset Railblock. I’m sure you can use it upside down, I just don’t think it’s necessary to do that.

The options are quite simple. The Basic doesn’t include the Top Handle, the other one does, you can select Jag35 Rods or Zacuto rods, your choice, and the other options is either 6″ rods on the front or 8″ rods for longer lenses.

The final option is to get either the Straight Offset Railblock or the Raised Option, the raised will basically bring your camera up slightly higher, this is also optional, both will work ok, but the idea is that if you use a battery grip, and your camera already sits up higher, then you don’t need it raised any more, if you plan on using the camera without a battery grip, then you can get the raised option, to bring camera up a little higher, if you need it higher.

I don’t think your height will determine what rods you should use, rather your lens length. If you plan to use longer lenses, then I definitely suggest you use 8″ rods. If you plan on mounting a follow focus and a matte box and feel you might need more rod space, then I definitely suggest you get the 8″ rods.

It’s not the most comfortable, specially if your doing long shoots, most of the weight is on your arms, definitely suggest you go with a counterweight rig if your looking for something comfortable, if your shooting for long periods of time.

The Field Runner is a great starting point kit, it’s very compact and very affordable, plus you can always build up from there and convert it into a full shoulder rig with counter balanced weights, and continue to add more accessories. The other thing you might also like, to shoot video with DSLR’s is a viewfinder. We have two affordable ones that we like, the Monitor X or the DigiFinder, or if your budget allows it, the Zacuto Z-Finder is always everyone’s number one choice. Other than that, a follow focus will help with critical focusing, making easy to rack focus while shooting video. Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.

You mean Straight Offset railblock or Raised Offset railblock correct? It really is up to you, if you’ll be using your camera straight without a Battery Grip, then you can just get the raised option, but if you plan on using a battery grip, then go with the straight option, hope this helps.

This kit was designed to work specifically with DSLR Cameras, it hasn’t been tested with video camcorders, you might run into height issues on the DSLR stand.

I received my Field Runner yesterday. It came right on time. I opened the box and put everything together with ease. Then, my wife confiscated, re-boxed, and wrapped it. Now, I have to wait another week.
From the limited time I got to actually hold it in my hand I could tell it was very well made and will fit in well with the rest of my kit. I’m already dreaming of expanding it in several areas with your other products.

what length lens do you think would require upgrading to the 8″ rails?

Most lenses will work ok with the 6″ rods, but we found that you need 8″ if you want to use the 70-200mm lenses.

If I want to use a 20mm (canon 2.8) on a 7D (no BG), will the 8″ rods be visible on screen? I prefer to have longer rods for maybe a mattebox etc. maybe 6″ is a better option?

You should be fine with the 8″, if they show in your lens, then all you need to do is push the rods a little further back, and you should be fine.

Very low budget indie/freelance here, looking for the most affordable/diverse product you guys sell. How does the steadyness of this compare to your other rigs, and I see your coming out with your own remote FF, would it be better to wait and get that, or do you manual FF work with this rig? I was thinking about mounting a follow focus– if I get rid of one handle and put my free hand on the follow focus, will that still support the rig?

It’s steady enough, but it definitely requires more concentration, and you won’t last with this rig for very long, as it’s not balanced. It’s great for short shots here and there, but not for a very long shoot.

You definitely won’t last too long with this setup. Your arms will get tired. I’d say you really can’t go over an hour with a rig like this, you’ll definitely need to take breaks quite often. I don’t think you’ll notice as much in the hands, but your full arms holding the weight of the rig up in that position will definitely tire you out. Also because the rig isn’t balanced, and is front heavy, you’ll feel it in your arms. It’s a good starting point, but definitely suggest building up to a balanced rig if you plan on doing longer shoots.

You can definitely hold up the Field Runner with one hand, but you really can’t support the weight by the D|Focus knob, all the weight of the rig will be held by your right hand, and since the Field Runner isn’t counter balanced, you really won’t last very long, your arm will be very tired. It’s why we’re working on the new Electronic Follow Focus, you can keep your hands on the handles at all times, and still control both focus and zoom, its gonna be great.

I guess it’s possible to mount a monitor on it, but this kit isn’t really setup for that, this kit has an offset railblock in the middle, so that the camera sits right in front of your face, so you can bring the camera right up to your eye and use with a viewfinder. If you were to mount a wait on the back of this, get a offset for to make it in front of your face more, and got extended handles, would this make this rig be able to not tire you out for about as long as the Shoulder rig?

Yes you can definitely turn this Field Runner into a Full Shoulder Rig if you wanted by adding the parts. The field runner is made out of the same pieces that the Full Shoulder rig is made out of, so it makes it easy. And havin’ an counter balance weight on your rig will definitely help to make this more comfortable and will help you last longer in shoots. The Field Runner bundle already includes an Offset Railblock so you should be good there.

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but what is the purpose for getting the 8″ rods vs the standard 6″ ones?

I have a quick release plate mounted to my camera already for attaching to a Monfrotto monopod (561BHDV). Do you have a quick release system I can mount to the field runner that is compatible?

Only reason to get 8″ rods instead of the 6″ is if you think you’ll need extra rod space below your camera. say for example if you plan on using longer lenses, like a 70-200mm and want to mount a mattebox in front of your lens, that’s mounted to the rods. Stuff like that.

You can use the Tripod Plate under the Field Runner and mount your quick release plate to that and mount the full entire kit to a tripod plate if you want, I hope that’s what you mean.

Could you change the front handle rods for times when you need to mount a monitor on the offset model?

Got my field runner a couple of weeks ago. already in love. one question…the small camera mount plate for the dslr to perch on has 3 small, oddly spaced screws that are removable with a hex key. What are the for? if i leave them screwed in, they actually scratch the underside of my camera.

Yes that would work but ideally it should be were your rig is most balance.

Those three little screws are locking pins, depending on what camera you have. 5D, 7D or T2i, you raise the individual pin to lock the camera from moving out of it’s place. They are removable so you can take them off if you don’t need them.

Yes it can be attach to the Field Runner.

Yes a counter weight can be compatible to The Field Runner, all you need is another 12″ rod and the counter weight and the stability should be the same

Yes, We have never tested that so we don’t know how to advise.

Not sure I understand your question, but if you mean you wanna have both options a raised railblock, but then you’ll also want to switch to a straight railblock, then you can order the straight railblock from this page: j35.us/offset-rb

The Foam Grips are not removable, they are glued together, it is possible to mount bike handlebar grips on our handles, but I assume you’ll have a bit of a hard time removing the glued foam, might be able to send you some without the foam grips, if you’re interested.

Also keep in mind that the Full Shoulder Rig also has separated handles in the from, which definitely add to the comfort of holding the rig, and the comfort levels directly affects the stability of the rig as well… so you might also wanna get an i90 railblock (j35.us/i90-rb) and another single rod to spread out the handle grips, this will also make a big difference, as will the extended handles (j35.us/extended-handles)

Oh I see what you mean… I believe it’s more straight of course, but probably not exactly straight, there might still be an inclination, it isn’t intended to be a leveled table.

1. it’ll raise your camera a lot, meaning that now the distance from where your lens sits and where your bottom rods are will be drastically changed,

2. it’ll also offset your camera both front to back and side to side, so if you later wanted to add a follow focus you might have a hard time, and if you later want to add a mattebox that mounts to the rails, it’s not gonna lineup correctly anymore.

Don’t get me wrong, it definitely possible, it can be done, it’s just not ideal, and you’ll have to deal with some custom modifications that you’ll have to figure out on your own, based on which model / brand battery grip you get, as they are all different sizes, there’s no standards.

you can either mount our weight, to only one rod, should work ok, or you can just add another rod to your kit, just buy a single rod from this page: j35.us/jag35-rods

you can also replace your shoulder pad single railblocks with these j35.us/railblock to make it truly legit.

usually the deciding factor is weather you’ll be using a battery grip with your camera or not, if you are, then there’s no need for a raised railblock, as your camera will already be raised quite a bit, from the battery grip, it’s also left up to preference.

I just bought the Field Runner bundle in July which came with.the follow focus, I was wondering if there was any way to connect an h4n zoom to it without a cage? I saw a video on youtube of Jehu and he did not have the cage, but that was the set up I wanted for my Canon 60d.
