Finally the Straight Shoulder Rig is here. This Rig differs from our “Offset Raised Shoulder Rig” in that it is designed to be very simple, light and to be used using an external LCD monitor. The DSLR body sits straight on top of your shoulder and the monitor in front of your face.
Its available in a Basic configuration, and a Complete Ready to shoot configuration that includes a 7″ lcd external HDMI Monitor,Battery, Power Cable and HDMI Cable needed to plug your DSLR body and go. For shooting outdoors we recommend using this sun shade available here

Would a top rail handle fit (and be reasonably balanced) on the rails if placed between camera mount plate and the shoulder pad mount?

is the 'DSLR stand Mount' available separately?
Teknique12000
Hello, I plan to purchase the Straight Rig complete. My question is, do I need the Jag 35 cage with this setup? Also, if I want to attach this to my tripod, what base-plate config do i need?
MagnusHN
Can I use this rig for my Canon EOS 550D with Canon EF-s 18-135 is? Sorry, it may be a stupid question, but those shoulder rigs is totally new for me, but I really need one! rnThank you!
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Yes, you can use with the 550D or T2i.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
You don't need the Cage, you can attach your camera to the plate included, but you can also add a cage if you want to at a later time, with two railblocks. If you want to mount the rig to your tripod, you'll just need to add a tripod plate: http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/ nor if you buy the Straight Rig Complete it already includes one tripod plate piece. Intended to mount battery, but it'll also work to mount it on a tripod. Hope this helps

Not yet, we're still working on the pages…. give us a little more time.

Hey Jag 35, heres a question for ya..I finally bought a FF, plate, and 3 lens gears..or I should say, paid, then got in line, as today is the 25th!
Let's move onto shoulder mounts. I'm a guy that has a Z-finder pro 3x for my 7d, and has a fairly suitable shoulder mount for it (plastic $45) that works great. (though a little un-client friendly looking)
Question is: what about a person that wants to switch between a viewfinder gig, and a monitor one, possibly on the same job. I am so confused by the limitations of the offset options and the straight, monitor version options…surely you must have a solution for my needs. (Both, with same, easily adaptable shoulder rig) Like a articulating offset?
I am totally shocked that no-one has asked this question of you yet. And not just you… Redrock and Zacuto have the same limited options. It seems it's one or the other. I find it hard to believe that people don't want both options in their systems. $750 (Jag's) to $3000 (others) versions.
Please advise. I'm a working dir/camera person with a lot of need for both. And just made my first $350 purchase from Jag35.

Follow focus and rings are included?
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Nope, sold separately
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Hi Joe, Your right this doesn't come up very often, we've only had one more person ask something similar to this, and to be honest were headed in that direction it's just taking us some time. nnYou will be able to do exactly what you want to do with our rigs. All you would have to do is, buy the Straight Rig, and add an offset railblock which will let you go back and form between the two. With Zacuto Rods, you can break down the rods and make them work, with our 20" Jag35 Rods you can simple add the Offset Railblock and 6" or 8" rods. You can see a picture of this here: http://twitpic.com/2k1fz8

Sure.

What other pieces do I need to mount this rig to a tripod easily? Also is there a simple way to add a matte box? nnThanks,nGraham
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
All you need is the Tripod Plate – http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/ This will mount straight to your rods. nYou can simply add a matte box to the rods in front of your camera, the rods are already a standard height from the lens to work with any industry standard matte box.

will the cage work with the pentax k-x?

What's he differenc between basic and complete? Jag and Zacuto Rods?
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
They include different things. See the Featured section in blue. The Complete kit, includes the Monitor and battery.
Ok, So Jag35 Rods Complet! Comes with LCD and Batt? Thanks.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Yes, includes the Monitor and battery and cables needed to connect it.
Andy
I was wondering if this rig can be used with a canon 5d Mark ii with a battery grip attached?
By this i mean full rig, with mattebox, shoulder pad, tripod plate and lcd monitor.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Yes it can be used that way, but you'll need to do a few modifications, like instead of the DSLR Cage you would probably use DSLR Baseplate, as the Battery Grip makes the camera too tall to fit in the DSLR Cage, and you'll probably also need to get a Riser Block like this http://jag35.com/new/products/rod-raiser/
Send me an email, I can invoice you with a custom rig: misa@jag35.com
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Yes, the Cage was designed with the height figured out already. All you have to do is add bottom rods to the cage with two rail blocks and the distance from the rods to the center of lens will already be the 85mm industry standard. You can just the Bottom Rods kit which includes the rods plus the two rail blocks you'll need to attach it to the Cage, and it also includes the Tripod Plate, so you can mount the whole rig to a tripod. http://jag35.com/new/products/bottom-rods/
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
That is a really good question. I can't quite answer it here though. I'm gonna work on this and put up a video, we're starting to get more questions about setups like this, so I think it's time for a video of it. Keep an eye out for it this coming week.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
We don't offer different colors other than the rods.
We ship from California.
At the moment it's taking us about 1 week to ship full rigs.
D|Focus v3 is taking us about 2 weeks to ship from when you place your order.

Hi, Is the straight rig can be used with a viewfinder? Is there a way to adjust it so the camera is in front of our eye to use the viefinder?
Do you ship to Europe?
thanks
Misa Garcia
At the moment we don’t have a kit that is easily setup to do both, you can buy the straight rig, and then an offset raised railblock, with 6″ or 8″ rods and then you have the offset to place the camera in front of your eye for use with view finder, so you would have to buy those pieces separately.
Yes we ship our products worldwide.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Good question, will find out for you and post it on the specs section this coming week.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Yes. You should be able to order it again, make sure you are using the Pre-order Button only, the other buttons won’t work.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Yes, we ship our products worldwide.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Sure… order it rushed… the option is at the last step of the check out process.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Sorry that it’s hard to find our products on the site… our proper shopping cart is coming very soon, for now you can find the i90 piece on this page: http://jag35.com/new/products/i90/
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
I don’t have a D300s to test it out, I don’t think there’s any issues, but I can’t really say for sure.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Sure of course, the baseplate for this only has a flat surface with a 1/4-20 screw which can basically screw right on your 1DMK4 and tighten, if you need to raise rods in front of the camera so you can mount a follow focus and matte box, then you’ll need to get a rod raiser: http://jag35.com/new/products/rod-raiser/
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Those handles are currently not available, but will be very very soon. Another week or so and you’ll have the option of ordering the rigs with those handles.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
We might be able to have them ready for you. I’ll send you an email.
If i buy a basic straight rig and a Dfocus for my canon 550d.
Do i need something else ?
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
I don’t know, you might need a monitor in order to see what your recording, so If you already have a monitor and battery, then you should be set.
Zomba
Just ordered a D Focus today. looking forward to it. However, Im not 100% sure what Im gonna need as I already have a letus Extreme industry standard bracket and rods kit… what would I need to attach the Dfocus to it?
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
nothing, you should be ready to go, as long as they are industry standard 15mm rods 60mm spaced apart, you should be fine.
Thom Maitland
Is the Dfocus compatible with the PROAIM 10c kit?
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Should work with any industry standard rods.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
No, the current straight rig doesn’t have the extended handles, but they will available very very soon… look for them this coming week on the website.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
You don’t have to use a monitor if you don’t want, but the straight rig is design to align the DSLR Camera to the rig, and have it sit on the side, so if your not using a monitor, then how will you look at the screen. If you plan on using a view finder or something like that, then I suggest you go with the Shoulder rig instead of the straight rig: http://jag35.com/new/products/shoulder-rig/
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
You had to click on add to cart to see the discounted price.
You can add a matte box to the Straight rig, but depending on the size of the matte box that you use and the size of the lens that you use, you might need to buy additional rods so that they will all fit. We sell rod connectors so that you can extend the length of the front rods ( http://jag35.com/new/products/jag35-rod-connector/ ) and we sell extra rods through here : ( http://jag35.com/new/products/rods/ )

Unfortunately you are to late, that sale was for the weekend that just passed (Oct / 23-24). I would recommend that you go with the Straight rig if you own the 60D, the Shoulder rig ships with a cage and one of the bars will get in the way if you ever want to use your 60D LCD open. The Straight Rig does ship with the mount for attaching the camera to the rods.
Kevin Garcia
The Complete Straight Rig weighs 13 pounds with the counter weight included.
That picture is basically the Straight Rig Complete with the Monitor. Everything included in one package. You can do what your asking for, but only if you buy the kit with Zacuto rods. When you order the Straight Rig with Zacuto rods, we ship 12″ rods w/ extenders and then 8″ rods. So it’s possible to break down the front part and mount it to a steady system the way your wanting to do. Problem is while on a glidecam your really not gonna want to be messing with the dfocus while your shooting, plus balancing might be a little harder, but it can definitely be done. Hope this helps.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Yeah it can definitely be done.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Well, the Straight Rig ships with 20″ rods. I think they are long enough to handle a matte box. You can always extend them if you needed it to, but I doubt you’ll need it.
Kevin Garcia
All that you will need to mount the Straight Rig to a tripod is our tripod plate : http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/
The Tripod plate will mount on to the rods on the rig and from there you can attach your sliding quick release plate to the tripod plate. If you want to be able to quickly remove your camera from the rig, we now sell a new Quick Release DSLR Stand : http://jag35.com/new/products/quick-release-dslr-stand/
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
No. If you order the Straight Rig with Jag35 Rods, you will get the long 20″ rods. But if you order the Straight Rig with Zacuto Rods, then you will not get the Jag35 20″ Rods, instead of that, you’ll get 12″ rods plus 8″ rods with the extender threaded stud, which makes up the 20″ Rods for the straight rig. Hope that makes sense.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Can’t say for sure, but at the moment it’s taking us from 10 – 14 days to ship most shoulder rig orders.

Hello! So I am a film student and for the Xmas break I have gotten all of my friends from home to get together to do a short, I would love to have the rig before then, if I order today do you think I would get it before the 21st of December? Today is the 3rd of December. Thanks a lot!

Hi
I am very interested in this. Could you please tell me what I would need to mount this onto a tripod and also I would want a DSLR cage with it, compatible with the T2i and battery grip.
Many thanks!
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
To mount it to a tripod all you need is a tripod plate: http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/
The DSLR Cage isn’t designed to work with battery grips. The problem with battery grips, is that there’s so many different ones out there, and they all offset the camera both left to right and front to back, so we don’t support them. If you must use a battery grip, I suggest you stick to our Regular DSLR Stand, instead of the Cage.
Justin-davey
Hi
Thanks for your reply to my last comment. Could you tell me please if the shoulder pad with this straight rig is the as shown in the photograph, or is it the same as the one which is available to buy on its own for $99?
Many thanks – Justin

No it’s the new Curbed Shoulder Pad, we just haven’t had the time to update the pictures… Will work on pictures soon, sorry about that.

do you sell mattebox for this unit? if yeas can you show me the photos for it
Henry
I’ve been searching your site for a “matte box” configuration for a 5D w/ Zacuto eyepiece.
Do you mean, a Straight Rig configuration, which allows you to mount a Matte Box and also your 5D with the Gorilla Plate Attached? Is that what you mean?
Henry
I would imagine in most instances I’d have the Zacuto Finder attached to a 5D, and it is my understanding the Gorilla Plate is what anchors the Zacuto Finder in place. (Don’t exactly know how support rods fit into this plate.) I’m trying to configure a versatile rig which can convert FROM SHOULDER TO TRIPOD with follow focus capability on a 24-105 lens and with a matte box. I am wondering if JAG35 has “bundle pricing” on such an arrangement?
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Oh ok… then you don’t want the Straight rig…. The Straight Rig configuration is designed to be used with an external monitor, not Viewfinders. It’s why we use straight rods all the way thru the kit, and have the camera sit off to the side, since you’ll be using the monitor to view your signal.
Instead what you want, is a the Offset Shoulder Rig: http://jag35.com/new/products/shoulder-rig/ However, in your case, I would do a couple of modifications, since you plan on using the Z-Finder Gorilla plate I would suggest you get the Offset Shoulder Rig, but instead of using the DSLR Cage with it, go with the Gorilla Quick Release stand instead: http://jag35.com/new/products/gorilla-stand/ This way using your Gorilla plate will be seamless and QR too.
Would it be possible to get the basic package but minus the shoulder pad and counterweight but with a top handle? If so, what would that go for?

I’m having a problem while using the D|Focus w/ the camera on the DSLR stand on my shoulder rig, when I start to pull focus, it slightly nudges the lens/camera, and moves it side to side. Is there anyway I can remedy this? Thanks

We’re looking into this issue at the moment. We have included a few holes in the plate which will allow us to add pins to avoid the camera from rotation, we should be able to get this worked out very soon. Send me a direct email for further info: misa at jag35.com

http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Yes… this has been fixed, all our DSLR Stand, ship with the new upgraded plate, which contains the locking pins.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Basic is only rods and clamps/railblocks, complete includes monitor and monitor battery.
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
Sure. We do.
http://twitter.com/djmogg Daniel Mogg
If you get the complete rig, can you mount the monitor on it straight out of the box? Or do you need to buy an articulating arm as well?
http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia
You can mount the Monitor straight out of the box, however, you don’t have much control over placement, basically you can mount it directly above the rod, using the provided single railblock that’s included, and you can slide it alongside the rod, for more control you can use an articulating accessory arm, which can be mounted directly to the provided single railblock, so either way, you still need the provided single railblock.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
http://twitter.com/djmogg Daniel Mogg
Also, if you can’t quite afford the complete kit.  Is it possible to purchase the basic one and get  the rest of the complete kit (Monitor,HDMI,Batter,Cable) at the same price?
Anonymous
Hi Daniel,
If you get the Straight Rig by it self the cost is $499 and if you get the complete set its only $280 extra. If you decide to buy the rest of the kit later it will be ore expensive the The JAG35 Monitor alone is $249. You would save your self a lot of money if you get the complete set.
Anonymous
Im sorry but it would not. The Sony EX1 is to big.
