Full Shoulder Rig
Posted by Misa on July 13th, 2010
This full shoulder Rig is an expansion of the original Jag35 DSLR Cage. The Cage is the basis of this full rig setup. If you already own the DSLR Cage, we will be offering the upgrade kit which will include the correct parts to turn your Cage into a full shoulder rig.
This Rig is Offset and its designed to place the DSLR camera T2i, 7D, or 5Dmk2 right in front of your face, it works best with one of the available LCD Viewfinders in the market like Zacuto Z-Finder Jr. We will also be offering a Straight Rig designed to be used with an external monitor in the event that you would need to split the HDMI signal and send one feed to video village. As you may already know plugging and hdmi cable disables the dslr built in lcd screen creating a need for an external monitor. Ron Risman From Cameratown.com did a quick Hands-on preview of this rig here.

It really depends on what lenses you plan on using…. for most lenses you’ll be fine using the 6.5″ zacuto rods, you should be able to mount your follow focus and matte box no problem, but if you plan on using longer lenses, like 70-200 or something like that, then you’ll probably need to go with the 8″ rods. If this is what your interested in doing, send us an email thru our contact form, and we can set you up.
1. The Straight Rig actually ships with Jag35 20″ Rods at the moment, but you very soon you’ll be able to order with Zacuto rods. Zacuto doesn’t make 20″ rods, so it’ll ship with 12″ rods and 8″ extension rods. The other great thing about zacuto rods is that they are threaded on both sides, so you can extend the rods by screw two together. Jag35 rods don’t have threads yet.nn2. That plate you see there, is just a tripod plate mounted upside down, we were using this simply as a flat surface that we can attach devices to. We had the monitor battery attach to it.nn3. Yes you are correct on this. We’ve never really seen anyone set up the quick release the way cameratown did, but it’s an option if you wanna do it. We figured everyone would want to take their camera along with their follow focus together, so you can mount your quick release below your DSLR Baseplate and attach it to the Tripod plate, like you described.nnNot a problem. Hope this clears things up a bit for you and others, it’s why we like answering questions thru live comments.
At the moment it’s taking us about 2 weeks to ship D|Focus orders.
Hi, i interested in the shoulder rig and the follow focus. If I order tomorrow when do I get it. Thanks

1. If you add the tripod plate to the bottom of the rig, then everything comes along when you mount to the tripod, include the follow focus.n2. It really depends on what size lens you are using, for most lenses, yes you’ll be fine, but if you are using long lenses like 70-200mm, then you will longer rods, like 8″n3. Yes, this can be done, except, keep in mind that the offset railblock will still put the camera in front of your face, so that might an issue, if you’re using Zacuto rods, it’s easier, you can simply remove the offset railblock and extend your rods and turn it into a straight rig. You can go back and forth this way. See picture –> http://twitpic.com/2k1fz8

If we could just keep up with all tasks, we’d definitely do it, sorry about that. You should be able to order the Shoulder rig w/ Zacuto rods again, sorry again.

No, you have to order that separately, look in the related products section.
Hi Oscar, You don’t need anything else to mount a follow focus or matte box to this kit, you can just mount them on the bottom rods below the camera. Unfortunately this rig doesn’t not include a baseplate so you can mount it, we call that piece a tripod plate, which basically gives you a flat surface with 1/4-20 threads so you can attach your quick release or whatever, you can get that separately either from the related products section on this page or from this page: http://jag35.com/new/products/tripod-plate/
Oh I didn’t realize that, will fix it right away, thanks for the heads up!
I noticed the link to the Cameratown.com review at the end of your description is broken.
Thanks Jonathan!
We don’t have a Nikon body to test it out, we haven’t gotten a chance to test our DSLR Cage with Nikon cameras.
Can I use this kit with a Nikon D3s?
