*Update posted Aug 18th at 6:00PM PST
Just wanted to give you guys an update. Dave is working as fast as he can to produce D|Focuses and ship all pending orders. We have stopped taking pre-orders at this time, so that the wait for them doesn’t become outrageously long. At the moment the wait time is 2 weeks to receive your your order from the time you place your order. We will begin accepting pre-orders again Wednesday Aug. 25th at Noon 12PM PST

A Follow Focus is a Focus control mechanism used in film and video cameras. It is ergonomic rather than strictly necessary; in other words it does not contribute to the basic functionality of a camera but instead allows the operator to be more efficient and precise. It is usually operated by a focus puller (often called the 1st assistant camera, or 1st AC) but some camera operators prefer to pull their own focus (the act of changing focus is called “pulling” or “racking” focus). Traditionally follow focus systems costs thousands of dollars, and many manufacturers have tried to make a more affordable follow focus, but they still cost hundreds of dollars, well finally David Aldrich has come up a truly affordable design.

Changes From the V2
- • New custom manufactured knob. Smaller in diameter and longer for a better grip and more room on the marking disc.
• The reference pin also doubles as the 5/54″ hex wrench for making adjustments and flipping the gearbox over. This way you always have your adjustment wrench with you!
• Thinner gearbox, about 1/4″ thinner than the V2. With the JAG35 Cage or the new JAG35 DSLR Baseplate we are able to make the D|Focus V3 work with even the shortest of lenses without having to reverse the gearbox (which would get in the way of a matte box.)
• Thinner slider mount, again reduced by 1/4″, saves room on your rails
The D|Focus is quickly becoming one of our best selling products. It has proven time after time to be a very functional solution for all your critical focusing needs. With the release of the new and improved Version 3 not only has the design gotten better, but the drive gear box has significantly improved in functionality making to more effective and precise for focusing.

Everything Included in the D|Focus v3 Box
What you get in the box when you purchase the D|Focus will be the actual D|Focus version 3 unit itself, which will already include the white marking disc and marking pin. The D|Focus unit also comes with one Rail Block, so you can mount the D|Focus on support rods. (should work on any industry standard rods.) The package will also include the two needed allen keys, which can be used for adjustments during setup, or if you want to invert the D|Focus so it works on the other side of your rig. You will have the option of ordering D|Gears in the same package if you want to, you just have to specify how many you want and they will ship in the same package, or you can order the D|Focus alone.

If you order the D|Focus alone, then you’ll only get the D|Focus, if you order it with 1 gear then i’ll ship with one gear, if you want to get the D|Crank, then order the D|Crank as well. You really only need 1 gear, and the same gear should work with any lens, but if you want to have one lens per gear, then order as many gear as you have lenses.
I’m not understanding your question. What do you mean by multiple focuses?
I really can’t say when we will be able to ship. At the moment, I don’t even know when we’re getting our next shipment. I’ll see what I can do.
Yes, you can pre-order it! Just make sure you use the Pre-order button.
So i can’t even order this? Not even get on a list?…
Hope so. I can’t be completely certain, only Dave knows.
