Will this work on a Canon T2i w/ a battery grip? Also, will I be able to add your follw focus onto this? Thanks.

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

We really don't support battery grips, sorry they are all so different in dimensions and also they offset the camera both front and back and side to side. We are anti battery grips for now.

Do I need this in addition to the Straight Rig and DSLR cage to add on a matte box?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

The Straight Rig already includes bottom rods below your DSLR, you don't need a DSLR Cage for a Matte Box, it will be mounted to the front edge of your rods.

Could I just mount a QR Plate such as the 577 to the top and mount my camera that way?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Never tried that, however, I can already tell you what kind of problems you’ll run into if you do it that way. The First thing that comes to mind, is that the height of where the camera sits in relation to where the support rods should be won’t be accurate, so if you plan on mounting a follow focus or a mattebox, then you’ll have problems with the distance, some devices might work, but most aren’t designed to work that way. These bottom rods are designed to be mounted under the DSLR Cage, and the distance for the rods is already worked out for you.

If you’re looking to add bottom rods to your DSLR without a CAGE, then I suggest you go with our DSLR Baseplate: http://jag35.com/new/products/dslr-baseplate/ You can mount your camera to the DSLR Stand, the distance for the rods is already worked out so you can mount other devices like a follow focus or mattebox, and it includes the Tripod plate so you can mount your QR Tripod Plate straight to it, and you can mount it direct to your tripod. Hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions you might have.

  • Hello Stranger

Is there any difference between that and the tripod plate apart from the fact that there a re rods and clamps ?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

The bottom rods are designed to be mounted to the DSLR Cage. The tripod plate will allow you to mount the rods to a tripod. The bottom rods already include the Tripod plate as well as the rods, and the railblocks you’ll need to attach the kit to the Bottom of your DSLR Cage.

Hope this helps explain it, let us know if you have any other questions.

Could I buy this without the 2 rails? Would there be a discount?

  • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You get a discount when you buy it as a bundle, you can definitely buy just the railblocks and the tripod plate if you want:
