Name that JAG!

namethatjag

Congratulations to our NAME THAT JAG Contest WINNER Greg Vasilakis who submitted entry #1026 – The Field Runner

Thanks to all you guys for submitting your ideas, it really was overwhelming reading thru all 1800 entrees.

We need your help! If you’ve been following some of our progress with some of these affordable products, then it’s clear to you that we’re not very creative when it comes to naming our products. The part that you might not know, is that we actually spend time thinking about what we’re gonna name them, it’s just that in the end we can’t come up with anything good, so we just go with what’s obvious. We’re more technical than creative.

We have designed a new small affordable rig that we would like to make available to everyone very soon. Parts are almost ready, but we don’t have a name for it yet. This is where we need your help. Check out some pictures below of the Rig. It’s basically a smaller simplified more light weight version of the shoulder rig. It will retail for $299 with Jag35 Rods. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments below.

We have chosen 5 finalists and posted them as a poll. The person who submitted the winning NAME, will WIN the rig. It’s that simple.

Can we submit more than one name idea?

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Submit as many as you'd like! Make them good ones!

    • @JimDins

      Will do!

What about "The Half Jag" or "HalfJag DSLR" or "The Riggle"

    • Michaelrstephan

"JagRails" and "JagRails Pro" for the full rig.

Any idea when this will hit the market… I was looking at assembling a similar unit with your DSLR Basepalte, Sidehandles, and a Cavision RS15SP-3 shoulder pad. Early to mid july would be ideal.

As soon as we have a name for it, and all our parts are ready, it will begin shipping. We anticipate being able to start shipping early next week.

I think your right, however, we do have a pretty good record of not really getting creative with our names, we thought maybe for this one we'd get some help from the people who will probably end up using the rig. Keep in mind that after we look at all the entrees, we will probably choose 5 names that we definitely consider to be really good only, and that we would have no problem with, then we'll let people vote on those names. We shall see how that goes.

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yes, the follow focus attaches to the bottom rods, very simple. And yes, it's possible to expand this to a full bigger shoulder rig with a monitor, cage weight in the back, batteries, or really as big as you want. These mostly the same pieces we use on the regular full shoulder rig.

I've added a couple of names. I'm not sure about the user poll for choosing the final name though. I know it sounds like a good idea getting the users to name it but I feel that as the company would know it's own ethos a lot better and would be in a better place to choose the correct name. Maybe I'm being a bit petty and probably should shut my big gob (which I'm doing right now, very slowly). Mmmmmm…..

    • Raul

Could I attach your follow focus easily? Is there a way to expand this to include the monitor?

    • Christian

Wow. All of those are terrible names haha.

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Should have gone with: JAG35 CAMeleon SYSTEM

    • Noel

      The names are horrible! :)

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

I guess any of these would have been better right? Jaguar, Vicegrips, Goldenshade, Tigershade, UniMount, UniRig,

    • Paul Heerlein

      Slingshot, slungshot, optimus prime

    • Luke Dejoras

Field Runner seems appropriate. Shoulder hawk sounds cool. Other that, the remaining names sound a little strange. I guess that just means the rest of the entries must have been horrible! haha. Wait, mine was one of those – "cliffhanger". no? yeah? nah

    • Joemilkweed

Im surprised you didnt go for a name like The Bokeh or something more dslr related. The field runner wouldnt be a bad name.

    • Noel

I am pretty certain on a Zacuto or Redrock website they wouldnt mock potential customers.

"The Field Runner"… An ironic name for an ugly shoulder mount for cameras crippled by rolling shutter.

    • Christian

Well it's slightly more marketable than "The Shoulder Hawk." So much for creativity, I guess.

    • Christian

I like UniRig. It is a "universal" rig.

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Wow, wasn't making fun of you dude. You seems a little too angry!

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

ha… Optimus Prime, cuz it can transform into a truck!

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yeah, it was hard to choose from over 1800 entries, but we tried to choose names that also at least in some way described the product, and also something that might fit into a bigger scheme we can continue to use for future products. Hope we picked good names.

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

We thought about animal names, but they just didn't stand out to us, we were reluctant about the Hawk too, kind a glad it didn't win in the polls…

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Yeah, that's pretty cool. sounds like unibrow! ha! j/k

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

It was really hard to choose we got so many options that led into so many different directions, but we're pretty happy with the names we chose, and the winner as well. Thanks to you guys for all the ideas.

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

haha.. nice one… should have submitted it earlier…. I like it.. "SHOCK ROCKET"

    • Mattdigangi

      Quickdraw

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

You know we already have a winner right? Besides, I think Zacuto already has a product called the Quickdraw!

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

      ha…. nice one!

    • Mucaj

The Field Runner sounds good to me

    • http://misagarcia.com Misa Garcia

Thanks for the support. Someone submitted the name to us and although we didn't much of it at first, it really stuck with us and everyone voted on it, so it because the final name.

    • Archangel

It looks awesome, I will be doing a lot of field running myself with it :)
